Foscarini

On the island of Murano, there are many talented craftsmen and glassblowers, which guaranteed the special quality of Foscarini design lamps, especially in the early years.
This is no coincidence. The small island in the northwestern part of Venice since the 13th century the center for high-quality glass works in Italy and even Europe. The rulers of Venice kept the secrets of glassblowing and laid all glass furnaces to Murano. Officially this was done for fire protection reasons, to protect the surrounding houses, the more likely it is that the centuries-old secrets and techniques from the other rulers of Europe should be protected. Glassblowers were forbidden to strictest to pass on the secrets.
Two centuries later, glass became the main source of income of the Italian lagoon city. Unfortunately today witnesses usually only still life of the expensive glass works of the Renaissance. Foscarini is in the tradition of Italian craftsmanship and maintains this legacy conscientiously. The Italian Government also supports the glass artisans of Murano since the early 19th century. With museums, schools and studios historical techniques are preserved and passed on. Murano glass has a more than thousand-year history and is as important for the crafts in Europe like the famous Bohemian crystal.
With the famous designer Marc Sadler the fame of the Italian company grew. His Mite Floor Lamp was awarded the prestigious Compasso d'Oro. Sadler followed a credo of his own and created a design language that is typical of him. It is dominated by natural and organic structures, which can be seen in the Tress series or the popular Twiggy floor lamp.
Other designers characterized Foscarini as well. Modern classics, like the Caboche series or the Havana collection for in- and exterior are international bestsellers. Other well-known series of the manufacturer are the Big Bang and the Le Soleil.
